Before the selection of coupling agent, should first determine the moisture content of the filler used, according to the wet state and the characteristics of the aforementioned various types of titanate to determine the specific varieties, dry filler should be single alkoxy type, wet filler optional chelate type or single alkoxy pyrophosphate type.

In the selection of coupling agent should also consider the melting point of the polymer, crystallinity, molecular weight, polarity, aromaticity, fat foot, copolymer structure, etc., for thermosetting polymers should also take into account the curing temperature and curing mechanism.

The shape, specific surface, moisture content, acidity, alkalinity, chemical composition, etc. of the filler can all affect the coupling effect. Generally, the coupling effect of coarse particle filler is not as good as that of fine particles, but the effect of ultrafine (such as CaCO3 ≥ 2000 mesh) filler is the opposite.

The amount of coupling agent is generally 0.5-3% of the weight of the treated material, and the recommend amount is 0.8-1.5%. Its dosage and effect is not a proportional relationship, the amount is too much, but the excess of coupling agent to make the performance decline, (in the plastic in the tensile, impact resistance and other indicators decreased, in the coating, will make the adhesion is greatly reduced, etc.) the amount is too small, because the cover is not complete, the effect is not significant. So in the application to test out the best dosage, so that both economical and effective.

Due to the small amount of titanate coupling agent, in order to make it play its due effect, it must be uniformly dispersed in the filler (or pigment, etc.), otherwise, the coupling effect is not achieved.

Method of use:

1. Mixed method:

Is the polymer, filler or pigment and other additives and coupling agent directly mixed, this method is relatively simple, do not increase the equipment and change the original processing technology, the disadvantage is not ideal dispersion, because other additives and coupling agent competitive reaction.

2. Pretreatment method:

The filler or pigment is pretreated with a coupling agent, and then processed and mixed with polymers and other additives. This method has many advantages, especially suitable for some engineering plastics with complex polymer components or high processing temperature, which can prevent unnecessary side reactions, and the decomposition point of coupling agent and filler after pretreatment is greatly improved.

This law can be divided:

① Dry mixing is legal:

In order to make a small amount of titanate evenly coated on the surface of the pigment and filler, a small amount of diluent is generally added, and the dosage ratio of coupling agent is 1: 1, so that a small amount of titanate can be evenly distributed on the surface of the filler, and the filler cannot be evenly coated without diluent. This diluent can use the solvent and lubricant in the original process formula. For example, white oil (liquid paraffin) can be used in the plastic industry, engine oil can be used in the rubber industry, and 200# solvent oil or isopropyl alcohol can be used in the coating industry. Generally, a high-speed kneading machine is used for the treatment equipment, I .e. the filler is stirred at high speed for standby (pay attention to cooling, otherwise it is easy to cause local overheating to change color the filler and reduce the filling performance).

② Wet mixing method:

Monoalkoxy type, coordination type and other coupling agents can be diluted with solvent such as solvent oil, petroleum ether, benzene alcohol and the like to soak the pigment, then mixed, sprayed into the diluted coupling agent in mist form, then stirred for 5-15 minutes (depending on the effect of the stirrer), then the solvent can be removed according to the original process or by heating or decompression, and the water soluble chelating type is diluted and soaked with water, and then the water is removed. The coupling of this method is relatively complete, but it is too expensive in industrial production and economically uneconomical.
